WILLIAMS CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH Organized in 1787 This church was built in the 1840s |
The original church that was built in 1787 and burial ground were near the flowing stream and during heavy rains, the water of Williams Creek would overflow the banks flooding the cemetery and church building.
The church was rebuilt (possibly in the 1840s) on higher ground and a new cemetery was established.
The church was rebuilt (possibly in the 1840s) on higher ground and a new cemetery was established.
It's for this reason that graves prior to the 1840s are not found in the present day cemetery.
